The Evolution of Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD: Recent Findings and Mechanisms of Change

This talk will describe how Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) has evolved since it was first developed in 1988.  Through research the therapy has been modified and simplified into it’s current form and expanded in it’s inclusion.  In addition to studying the effects of CPT on PTSD and other comorbid symptoms, research has been conducted to examine mechanisms of change.

At the conclusion of the talk, participants will:

  1. Understand the essential components of CPT.
  2. Explain the effects of CPT on PTSD and other symptoms across populations
  3. Understand the cognitive mechanisms underlying CPT that lead to change.
