Trauma Informed Care: A Focus on Ethics and Cultural Competence

Trauma Informed Care: A Focus on Ethics and Cultural Competence

In this workshop, you will learn the diagnostic criteria of five varieties of traumatic stress disorder. Four evidence-based approaches to trauma treatment and recovery will be covered, with a focus on treatment for: acute stress disorder; post traumatic stress disorder; complex trauma; 24-7-365 terror and historical trauma. Emphasis will be placed upon ethics including how to maintain healthy boundaries and how to avoid doing harm when working with clients who have histories of trauma. We will also discuss culturally nuanced approaches to trauma recovery.

By the end of this workshop you will:

  • Discuss how to use the NCBB and NASW Codes of Ethics to guide practice
  • Describe what healthy boundary may be/look like with someone who may been or is currently being trafficked (or suspect they are being trafficked)
  • Have criteria to avoid doing harm when working with clients with histories of trauma
  • Define how to incorporate culture in trauma treatment and recovery
